Marina di Arbus
is interesting for the ones who want to take a break from the sea without going too far.
"Marina di Arbus" and "Costa Verde" is well known for the suggestion given by its scenery landscapes. The total absence of factories and released pollution into the sea make these waters clean everywhere; furthermore, since fishing is not much practiced, the sea is noticeably full of life.
The most appreciated of all is Piscinas, with its grand dunes, an incredible micro environment now popular among famous people seeking for privacy and isolation. A paradise made of "alive" sand partly covered by a thick vegetation.
The territory is formed by hills for 67% of it; large plateaus schistous and basaltic, generate grand cliffs unraveled by creeks and fjords. Geologically speaking, this is the oldest part of the island. Its beauty is wild; its natural scents, the spontaneous vegetation makes it unique. The landscape integrity is even more intriguing for its floristic and faunal rare species presence, and for the presence of mining structures abandoned but "alive". "Montevecchio" e "Ingurtosu", named by the UNESCO a "Heritage of the Humanity" locations, are fascinating towns, hidden in ilex and oaks forests, are there to remind us of a mining activity that has delivered buildings and construction sites of unusual elegance. The deer galloping in the woods among brooms, cyclamen and wild orchids recall a primitive world, for travelers seeking exciting moments. Unforgettable scenic games, tall sand dunes; lengthy deserted beaches; the deep blue of the sea contrasted by fragments of emerald, extraordinary transparent. The scent from juniper and mastic trees enhance the experience. Even in August harmony is endless.
"Marina di Arbus" and its inland are the Sardinian deer's territory, saved by extinction and now the true ruler of this mediterranean forest. The best hours to catch them around are the first hours of dawn and by dusk. During the mating season (August-October) is easy to hear their bellows echoing amongst dunes and hills. Patches of flower such as "corbezzoli", heath, juniper, myrtle, lentisk and "filiera" alternate themselves to rare settlements of badgers and to willows and alders trees, and colorful oleanders. In the woods is easy to run into Pine Martens, weasels, wild boars, wild rabbits and Sardinian wild cats. Many the birds' species: the red woodpecker, the raven, the falcon peregrine, the Bonelli's eagle, the colorful griffon painted with tropical colors, the kestrel, easy to watch in the spring while he is feeding the little ones perched on the rocks, and the sparrow hawk. By the beach one could observe the tiny traces of the snowy plover, small wader, of the herring gull, of the sea turtle, which lays her eggs along the deserted beach between Scivu and Piscinas.s It is easy to run into a number of little birds: namely Sardinian warbler, blackcap, and "magnanimo". Much more complicated is to peek at the goatsucker, a small bird whose feathers camouflage itself to blend into the environment; the name is born from a popular belief that sees the bird resting along with flock of sheep and the speculation that he would suck milk out of them; in actuality he feed himself with insects. At night, it is easy to run into the barn owl, bird famous for his silent flight. Many are the reptiles, although none of them is poisonous; Sardinia does not have any of those. Among the reptiles: the Tyrrhenian lizard, small endemic lizard, the Hermann turtle, the racer, and the viper snake.

Equally interesting is the vegetation amongst the dunes; the juniper trees and the bushes of hooded matweed keep anchored the sand of the dunes; the sea-lily whose flower becomes more pungent during the nightly hours; the eryngium, the sea bindweed, the small purple flowers of the gillyflower, and the yellow of the poppy flowers that together transform the dunes in the spring in a breathless burst of colors. One of the most interesting and important habitat is formed by the "Ginepro Coccolone" (a bigger juniper tree) along with their centenary trunks all twisted. For the presence of large quantity of unique and endemic essences, the Italian Botanic Society (Societa' Botanica ITaliana). had included this area in the BIOTYPE of high interest, had included this area in the BIOTYPE of high interest.
